With kids come sleepovers, slumber parties and pillow fights, along with the need for plenty of pillow cases. Experts recommend three sets of bedding for each bed in the house, with one set on the bed, one in the wash and one at the ready, and most beds have at least two pillows and often more. That’s a lot of pillowcases so maybe it’s time for some serious pillow talk.
Have pillow, will travel – how many times have you seen folks in an airport carrying their pillows, or packed your own pillow for travel or vacation. It makes sense to invest in a pillow protector or pillow encasement to prolong pillow life – there are many hypo-allergenic versions available along with pillow protectors featuring built-in bed bug barriers; these are useful both at home and on the road, especially if you have kids.
After putting pillow protectors on each pillow you can then cover the pillow with a conventional pillow case. A pillow case should be laundered once a week although many people prefer to change their pillow cases more often as they pick up makeup residue, facial and hair oil and so on.
When shopping for bedding it’s a good idea to stick to the basics with sheets and pillowcases in solid, neutral colors; try to select fabrics that will work well with whatever decorative bedding you choose. Many teenage bed comforters feature some wild prints and bold colors so the muted sheets may be the only restful and relaxing aspect of the bedroom.
